Needle Safety
As you may be aware, guidelines issued by the Department of Environment have had a major impact upon the disposal of sharps waste. Harm reduction is a key element of the Governments Drug Action stategy.
Needle exchange schemes based in community pharmacy outlets are highly recommended by the Task Force to Review Services for Drug Misusers (1996) as part of a this strategy as it is recognised that a large percentage of needle exchange service users are not known to other local care systems. However, there are over 2,000 pharmacies in the UK, often in difficult to reach locations, and their servicing needs can range from weekly to monthly or quarterly.
Scheme Benefits
Whilst everyone recognises the benefits of such a scheme, the problem for many has been finding a waste disposal supplier able to undertake this task. We provide a range of distinct and clearly labelled bins in sizes from 0.6 to 30 ltr. Brackets can also be provided free-of-charge to help you ensure that sharps are stored securely, away from walkways and out-of reach of patients or visitors.
